My friend Asif just passed away yesterday. I really can't believe it. He was a beautiful spirit and I was so proud of where his life was taking him.

I will miss him a lot. Please spread this video around and show some respect to this amazing artist and bright shining spirit.

I have no more words. If Asif was here I know he would.

Nazi Pro-Lifers Fuck Off!

I don't usually do this, but I got more riled up than a wet hen in a room full of mouse-traps today. I saw this video which made me sick for two reasons. First is what happens in the video, which is disgusting if it is true (which I am skeptical but not beyond believing). The second is the purpose behind this video. Pro-Lifers have been doing this since the 80s, but with internet videos spreading like wild-fire in a sage-brush patch, I fear they will have their way.

Why is our culture getting more and more conservative? I really don't understand it.

I know this is a website about drawing pictures and talking about comics and fun fun fun but I just couldn't keep my big trap shut when I read this guy talking about Margaret Sanger (the woman who founded Planned Parenthood) and "Jane Roe" the psuedonym for Norma McCorvey.

What follows is the (1) video and then (2) somebody's response to it and then (3)me getting a little mad. If you are pro-life, that's cool. Just keep it to yourself. You are free to choose to be pro-life and that's a wonderful thing. I'm not an Archie Bunker type but I do believe we live in a great country and it could be even greater if we all stopped acting like idiots and respected everyone.

If you are pro-life, that is fine; THAT IS YOUR CHOICE! By imposing your moral system on everyone in the country, you not only aspire to destroy our constitution but force people into unity, which is the definition of FASCISM!

Pardon me, but Margaret Singer has been vilified forever. She was actually pro-life in the sense that she wanted to see an end to abortion and felt that care and good social standing would keep children safe. Naive? Yes! Racist? Yes. ---- YES - SHE WAS RACIST, I won't argue with that. Guess what? EVERY WHITE PERSON IN THE 30S WAS!!!

Everyone thinks about her in today's terms. You need to contextualize what you are talking about. Your above statements about her are flat-out false. I am curious where your information comes from.

In fact, here is a quote from Sanger about the practices you are attributing to her:

As well, she opposed what the Nazis were doing in Europe. I do not know if Hitler ever praised her, but his favorite movie was Snow White. Does this mean Walt Disney was a Nazi?

The woman in the video (if it is in fact true, which I am HIGHLY skeptical) is clearly sick. But to say that Planned Parenthood, or abortion clinics purport racist ideals or eugenics experiments. NOBODY FORCES YOU TO WALK IN THERE!!! Pro-life pundits always guff and haw about the evils of abortion like somebody's holding a gun to your head and forcing you to have one. I won't get into the details, but it is not an easy choice.

"Jane Roe" is not a real person, it is a psuedonym. Norma McCorvey (who I believe you are referring to) became Catholic in the nineties, renounced her lesbianism (and her loving partner of 22 years!!!) and is now adamantly pro-life. SO WHAT?

Let's say what happened to her was fictitious. Does this mean that when it happens to someone else, abortion should be illegal?

Give me a break!

No, your eyes do not deceive you, there was no drawing yesterday. It's in a very public place and I need to take a picture of it. I'll put the title up, you'll know.

Any-hootles, here's proof that I'm not slacking. The end of April is my self-imposed deadline and I'm sticking to it. If you know me, you can probably figure out what this says in its entirety (or if you care to look at it for more than 2 seconds)



It's a lot of work, but why not. Dave Sim did 6,000 pages, the least I can do is dip my toe in the inkwell.

Stevie Wonder - Superstition live on Sesame Street

Oh this made me cry this morning. Nothing but positivity in this. It reminded me when I was a kid, Sesame Street was made to be this place of escape that kind of looked like the real world (esp. kids growing up here). It was a refuge, a place to hide, a place of fantasy and happiness.

Stupid Scanner

My stupid scanner thinks it knows how my picture is supposed to look and where to cut it off even though I've tried it a million different ways. Hewlett-Packard scanners are complete shit... this is the second I've owned and they continually let me down.

Anybody have a good idea for a replacement? I need one that will purr like a kitten and roar like a lion and hopefully make some good coffee...

R is for Revolution

Huntara !!!

So I've been watching old episodes of She-Ra (as opposed to the new episodes, right?) and saw this one starring "Huntara." I was blown away! She's this grey-skinned warrior from a warrior planet. Okay, whatever. But she has this husky black metal voice that is incredible, a platinum mohawk and a ponytail that looks like one huge dredlock. She also has something on her temple I can only assume is some weird astrological warrior planet space-lady mystical tattoo.

In a nutshell, she kicks ass!



It's unfortunate that the character designs are so great while the animation is, well, really stiff. There's some really nice animation of Imp earlier in the episode, as well as some perspective stuff that's fun, but She-Ra seems stuck in the second dimension, favoring awkward poses, slippery stiff legs and faces that refuse to show emotion.

Just think of how cool I would have been if I'd seen Huntara as a little kid. Hope for queer punks, husky lipstick lesbians, freaks, warriors, black metal lady vocalists, aliens, you name it.

I'm rambling way too much. Above is my portrait of Huntara, warts and all (actually I think I softened her up a little!) The horrible pose looks fake and the features seem weirdly placed... but I'm not a professional artist, so maybe I'm just messin' it up.

Huntara. Check her out. She's THE BOMB! I hope she's out there kicking bad-guy alien butt with other husky purple bikini wearing queer warrior freaks. Oh, and one last thing; she wears a ski-mask in her spaceship!!!

Patch It Up

I didn't put up anything on Saturday, then passed out after the Superbowl party (holy shit! What a game! I'm not a huge Giants fan but was so excited to see the Pats go down - don't stop looking at my blog if you're from Massachusetts, I don't really like football and talked about comics and play writing during the whole thing... but I'm way off point right now).

My Mom pointed out that nothing was up, so today I present a video and two sketches. The crayon sketch is from Curly's; they got new menus which really beg to be drawn on because they're flat and have no print. Maybe my 2008 resolution should have been to be more on top of my bloggis (rhymes with haggis).
